Abstract

This publication reflects current understanding of the composition of Russia's soil cover, its regional characteristics, and an analysis of the factors determining its differentiation. The textbook emphasizes the geography of soil-forming processes against a backdrop of brief information about the nature of major regions. The first part of the book presents the main theories of soil geography and provides an overview of small-scale soil maps. The second part describes the soil cover of the country's regions, addresses issues of the genesis and evolution of soils in specific areas, and discusses anthropogenic changes to soils using the new classification of soils in Russia.
