National Psychological Journal is a quarterly peer-reviewed journal, established in 2006. It is a print scientific periodical with open access online version.

National Psychological Journal is recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation for publishing doctoral research results.

Aims & Scope

The aim of National Psychological Journal is to promote communication of Russian fundamental and applied research as well as programs and practices evaluations in psychology.  It deals with topical social issues for psychological standpoints.

It publishes works on the topics, including but limited to:

  • Fundamental and applied research in psychological science
  • Methodological groundings of psychological and multidisciplinary research and practice
  • Psychological approaches to understanding topical social issues
  • Significant psychological developments in the fields of economy, policy, engineering and technology, healthcare, mass media, and national security
  • Perspectives and innovations in higher and postgraduate education as well as the issues in preparation of psychologists, including professional standards
  • Issues in organization and development of applied psychological services 

The types of submissions include:

  • Original research in psychology, education or multidisciplinary fields
  • Reviews, methodological or publicistic papers
  • Program evaluations and descriptions of best practice
  • Book reviews
  • Conference reports
  • Reprints of the founding works  in Russian psychology, previously unpublished

Open Access Statement

National Psychological Journal is an open access journal. All the content of the journal is available immediately upon publication in html and pdf formats.

The users of the journal’s website may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of its articles and allow readers to use them for any other lawful purpose (Budapest Open Access Initiative's definition of Open Access), without violations of academic publishing ethics.

The whole process of work with manuscripts, including article submitting and processing, is free of charge for authors.

Editorial board responsibility

Editorial policy of National Psychological Journal is based on the international practices of copyright and ethical principles, and particularly on academic publication guidance by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (http://publicationethics.org) and Budapest Open Access Initiative's definition of Open Access.

The editorial team is responsible for the quality of published articles. The editorial team is also committed to initiatives aimed at decrease of unethical research practices and ethical norms violations. It assures maintaining editorial ethics by the editorial board members, reviewers, and authors.

The general principles of manuscripts selections are credibility, scientific significance and topicality of submissions. Negative research results are completely acceptable for publication in case of adherence to reporting standards. Scientific discussions and letter to the editorial board are also welcome. Manuscripts, which contents violate the Russian Federation law, are prohibited from publication.

Editorial team ethical principles:

  • Neutrality
  • Combining processing transparency with confidentiality of research participants, authors, and reviewers
  • Open and sincere scientific discussion between authors and reviewers
  • Official agreements between the publisher, editors and authors
  • The journal allows the author(s) to hold and retain the copyright without restrictions
  • Publication of all the journal contents under CC-BY-NC (Attribution Non-Commercial) license
  • Manuscript rejection in cases of plagiarism or any other proved academic misconduct
  • Protection of personal data (according to the Russian Federation law) and any other information, obtained by the editorial team in the course of communication with reviewers and authors
  • Negotiation of scientific editing and proofreading with the authors
  • Prevention of conflicts of interests between the publisher, editorial board members, reviewers, and authors

Ethical principles for reviewers:

  • Reviewers should regard their work as a necessary condition for accepting or rejecting a manuscript as well as an opportunity for its quality improvement. Thus, reviewers contribute to scientific quality of articles.
  • Accepting for review only the manuscripts, which are within the scope of their expertise
  • Timely reviews
  • Confidentiality
  • Objective and constructive criticism
  • Informing the editorial team about any potential conflicts of interests
  • Reviews must not be influenced by authors gender, nationality, religious or political views (if the latter do not undermine scientific nature of manuscripts)
  • Reviewers must not use the information, obtained in the course of reviewing, for acting in their own interest of in the interests of a third party
  • Compensation for reviewers efforts is their acknowledgements in an annual list of reviewers, published in the print journal and on its website

Authorship

All the people, who made meaningful contribution to the research and/or manuscript preparation, should be indicated as authors. The order of following is established by the authors themselves.

Unacceptable types of authorship include:

  • Guest authors (well-known figures, who could potentially increase chances for successful publication)
  • Honorary authors (figures, who did not contribute to the research but have any type of power relationships with the actual authors, e.g. an official, a department head)
  • Invisible authors, i.e. excluding actual contributors from the authors list. Contribution of any other people or organizations should be mentioned in the 'Acknowledgements' section of an article.

Ethical principles for authors:

  • Authors are responsible for the contents of their manuscripts, credibility of the information provided, and its adherence to the norms of law and ethics.
  • Submissions should contain original and new results, contributing to psychological science or practice
  • Submissions should contain credible results with comprehensive and unambiguous description of research methodology, possible for reproduction
  • Discussion of the research significance should be modest and objective
  • All kinds of plagiarism are unacceptable
  • Any significant mistakes or impressions, be they detected in the course of manuscript processing or after publication, must be reported to the editorial team for corrections or retraction of such publication

'National Psychological Journal' is All-Russian scientific and analytical issue which highlights achievements in different areas of modern psychological science and practice.

The Journal publishes original scientific and practice-oriented articles on topical issues of the various areas of psychology, which is distinguished by scientific novelty and distinctive author's viewpoint.

Submitting Manuscripts

Electronic version of manuscripts is submitted to the Editor of the 'National Psychological Journal'. Manuscripts must contain original material, previously unpublished and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. To confirm this 'Original' shall be indicated. The Author Information includes contact email address, phone number and full postal address.

Manuscript Submission Form

The beginning of the article should contain the author's Russian and English initials and surname, academic title and degree, job title, full name of the institution, where the study or experiment was carried out, Russian and English article title, Russian and English summary (up to 1700 Russian characters within 250 English word limit), 5-7 keywords in Russian and in English, UDC identifier, the body of the article and reference literature.

The paper is up to than 25 thousand characters (including spaces). Large materials can be published in several issues of the Journal.

Article Layout

Publication is in the Russian language. The names of foreign institutions are given in Latin letters without inverted comas. Names of foreign scholars, names of heads of institutions, etc. in the Russian language are followed by transliterated Latin names in parentheses. Acronyms and abbreviations should be fully deciphered when used for the first time, with the exception of common abbreviations and terms of mathematical units.

Information about grants and acknowledgments are provided in a footnote at the foot of the first page.

Do not use:

  • Spaces and tabs to format indents (new paragraph) and paragraph alignment other than left or middle margins;
  • Hyphenation;
  • Endnotes.

The text should not contain double spaces and double paragraphs (blank lines).

Links and References

Bibliography should include at least three sources. Sources are listed in alphabetical order. Russian sources are followed by the sources in other languages. List sequential numbering is used.

Due attention should be paid to the correct specification and completeness of reference information. (For samples of reference descriptions see Appendix -Making Article Reference Lists (or Links) at: http://www.psy.msu.ru/science/npj/requirements.html  

The citation of electronic publications on the Internet showing all data are allowed only to the official sources and registered with Roskomnadzor (Federal Supervision Agency for Information Technologies and Communications). In the article text references to literature sources are given in round brackets as surnames followed by the year of publication after the comma, e.g., (Vygotsky, 1982). Footnotes as reference sources are not allowed.

Tables, Graphs, Drawings Tables

Tables, Graphs, Drawings Tables, figures and diagrams in the text should be numbered and titled.

Duplication of text graphs, tables and figures is not allowed.

Charts and diagrams can be built in MS Excel. MS Excel diagrams shall be provided with the original data file. Tables and graphs data should be carefully checked. The author is responsible for the information provided in tables and graphs.

Drawings and diagrams can be built with the use of graphic editors, and should not allow editing. Figures should be submitted in the following formats: .Jpeg (quality score of at least 8), or .Tiff (resolution of 300 dpi with no compression).

Charts, tables and figures, and photos that do not meet the print quality will be returned to author and shall be submitted with better quality.

Information about authors should be submitted in a separate file.

Please enter your full last name, first name and patronymic name/middle name, degree and academic title, position, place of work, number of publications. Specify your contact email address, personal website, phone, and postal address (which will not appear in the printed version of the Journal.)

Articles that do not meet these requirements are not published by the decision of the Editorial Board.

Manuscripts are reviewed to reveal the novelty, scientific and practical relevance of content. All reviewers remain anonymous. Author is contacted to be informed about a positive decision regarding the publication of the manuscript. If article is returned to the author for further improvement the revision review is attached.

The editors reserve the right to edit articles to give them brevity and clarity of the presentation form, and to correspond the text style of the Journal. The author's scientific content is preserved.
