Abstract

The textbook, the first edition of which was published in 2001, can be used for the course "Ecology and Geochemical Activity of Microorganisms", as well as various disciplines of the ecological profile. The main emphasis is on the central concept of the ecology of microorganisms - the microbial community, its structure and patterns of functioning. The publication briefly presents traditional issues of general microbiology: the organization of the prokaryotic cell, the physiology and metabolism of microorganisms, biodiversity and the characteristics of individual groups, which are considered primarily from the standpoint of ecology. The publication is intended for students studying in the areas of "Biology", "Fundamental and Applied Biology", as well as for a wide range of natural scientists.
