Abstract

The publication covers the current state of geometric approximation theory, its new directions and the results corresponding to these directions. Classical questions related to direct and inverse theorems for Chebyshev sets and their generalizations are discussed. Structural and approximative characteristics of general and specific approximating sets are studied, as well as the properties of stability, uniqueness and existence of elements of best approximations and continuous selections from operators of best and almost best approximation. Most problems are considered in the class of asymmetrically normed spaces. The book is intended for students, postgraduates and researchers working in the field of approximation theory and related areas.
