Mussolini's Regime and the Masses: A Monograph

This monograph reveals the multifaceted and complex relationship between Mussolini's regime and civil society. It identifies the characteristics of the Italian model of totalitarianism, the main forms and methods of total government control over citizens' lives. Particular attention is paid to the evolution of Italian mass consciousness and the problem of consensus—the emergence, essence, and collapse of the contradictory form of "consent" that was widespread in the 1930s among a significant portion of society with the ideological and political postulates and activities of Mussolini's regime.
