Abstract

This textbook examines recognition systems and describes approaches to pattern recognition from a mathematical perspective at the theoretical level. Visual pattern recognition is based on defining an image as a finite (non-empty) set of points on a plane (for a two-dimensional case), which can be used to represent real black-and-white and colour images. Three-dimensional image reconstruction from flat projections is also considered—a model of stereo perception (with a solution within the model to the problem of determining corresponding points on projections). A description of the use of image codes for cryptography is included.
