Abstract

This lecture course, covering one of the core disciplines of the general course "Modern Russian Language," is devoted to theoretical issues of lexical semantics. To identify the specific features of the Russian-language worldview, based on an analysis of the Russian lexicon, facts from other languages are drawn upon. The methodology utilizes an explanatory presentation strategy, driven by the controversial nature of many issues in modern linguistic semantics. Particular attention is paid to componential and conceptual methods of word analysis, as well as to such basic concepts of modern linguistics as "lexical function," "prototype," "frame," "concept," and "discourse."
