This book presents updated and expanded biographical information about one of the outstanding physical chemists, Professor Evgeny Ivanovich Shpital'sky (September 28, 1879–November 23, 1931), a professor at Moscow University and Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences. This book draws on materials from federal, regional, and departmental archives (the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the Russian State Archive of Economics, the Russian State Archive in Samara, the Central State Archive of Moscow, the Archives of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Central Archives of the Federal Security Service of Russia, and the Archives of Lomonosov Moscow State University), as well as materials from the personal archives of E. I. Shpital'sky's relatives and the memoirs of his colleagues and students.
These materials illustrate his contribution to chemical science and the development of the chemical industry in our country, and also shed some light on the tragic end of his life. A significant portion of the documents are being published for the first time.
