Moscow University Translation Studies Bulletin

Moscow University Translation Studies Bulletin is a scholarly journal that has been published since 2008 by Higher School of Translation and Interpreting (Faculty), Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The Founder of Moscow University Translation Studies Bulletin is Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The Publisher of Moscow University Translation Studies Bulletin is Moscow State University Publishing House.

The journal covers different issues of translation theory and methodology, translation criticism, the history of translation, of modern translation studies both in Russia and abroad, as well as ways of enriching and expanding the knowledge in the field of translation and interpreting. The journal also deals with other aspects such as philosophical, social, semiotic, linguistic, anthropological, psychological aspects of translation and interpreting activities as well as teaching translation and interpreting, stylistics, comparative terminological studies, computer-assisted translation (machine translation), documentation, etc.

The journal is published 4 times a year and is peer-reviewed. The reviewers are leading researchers in the field of translation studies from different research institutions and universities.

Publishing Activity of Moscow University Translation Studies Bulletin is based on regulations of Chapter 70 “Author’s Right” of the Russian Federation Civil Code, The Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and Guidelines on Good Publication Practice elaborated by the Committee on Publication Ethics ( www.publicationethics.org ).

Authorship

All authors must contribute to the research the results of which are presented in the paper and to the writing of the paper. All authors take public responsibility for the content of their paper. The author(s) must provide reliable and authentic results of carried studies and provide the guarantee that the results of the study are truly original, the borrowed fragments are properly cited with the obligatory reference to the author and to the source. The authors are oblidged to correct or refute the errors detected in the publication.

Information about the financial support of the study (if any) should be provided by the author(s).

Plagiarism

Plagiarism could be defined as “the unreferenced use of others’ published or unpublished ideas” ( www.publicationethics.org ). The Journal publishes only original and unpublished texts, in Russian and in other languages (with parallel texts in Russian). Plagiarism is not tolerated and the rejection of the article is automatic at any stage of the process.

Self-plagiarism (copying one’s own already published text extracts or whole texts without proper reference to the relevant publication or permission of the copyright holder) is considered unethical and should be avoided.

Citation rules and plagiarism avoidance techniques include:

• using quotes around cited words;
• using single quotes for a quotation within a quotation;
• using a space and three periods (full-stops) for a part of the quotation which is omitted;
• using square brackets around added words within a quotation;
• making no lexical changes to cited passages;
• limiting the use of direct quotes;
• paraphrazing or summarizing the information derived from different sources using one’s own words.

Malpractice Statement

Any cases of academic misconduct such as fraud, breached intellectual property rights, etc. will not be tolerated. The Editor and the Publisher will not leave any sentence or claim in regards to manuscripts and publications unattended, and will take all the required efforts to restore the violated rights.

The materials will not be allowed to be published if any reasonable doubt in plagiarism of its content appears.

The articles containing calls for national, ethnical or religious strife will not be accepted for publication.

The manuscript submitted to another journal or published in another journal cannot be submitted to the Journal without special decision of the Editorial board.

The Editorial board’s publication decisions are made on the basis of the data reliability and the scientific value of the work despite the race, gender, nationality, citizenship, social position, religious or political views of the authors. Unpublished materials will not be used for private purposes and will not be transferred to any third parties; the materials will be kept confidential.

1. The Journal operates a double-blind peer review policy. All submitted manuscripts are evaluated and suitable manuscripts are sent for peer review. Peer review is obtaining advice on individual manuscripts from reviewers. All reviewers are well-known specialists in corresponding fields of research who have at least three publications in recent years complying with the subject of the paper under review. The following aspects of the manuscript are reviewed: relation to translation and/or interpretation studies, originality and novelty, clarity of main viewpoints, organization of the research and quality of methods, reliability of main conclusions, structure of the paper, compliance of the title with contents of the paper, quality of references, quality of Russian summary, quality of English summary, ethical problems (conflict of interest).
2. Depending on the results of the review the article may be accepted for publication, rejected, or returned to the author with suggestions for improvement provided by the reviewer.
3. When taking a decision on publication of a submitted article the Editorial board will take into account the scholarly importance of the work under consideration and its compliance with the subject matter of the edition.
4. The Editors send to authors copies of the reviews or motivated rejection of the manuscripts (upon request).
5. All manuscripts submitted to Moscow University Translation Studies Bulletin undergo the initial review by the editorial staff for conformance to the requirements on formatting and thematic specialization of the journal.
6. After the Editorial board accepts an article for publication, the manuscript will be submitted to editing process.
7. After editing the copy is sent to the author for approval of revisions made to the text.
8. If the author refuses to make changes to the manuscript requested by the editor or does not respond to the editor for more than 30 days, the article is rejected despite any previous agreements.
9. The Editors provide an electronic issue of the journal with the copy of the published article to the author.
10. The Editors provide constant keeping of the published manuscripts, their availability in printed and electronic format. Reviews, authors’ answers and other materials are kept in the Editorial office for 5 years. Copies of the reviews can be presented upon request from the Ministry of Education and Science of Russian Federation.

Manuscripts are submitted by e-mail to vestnik22@mail.ru, in Word (.doc or .rtf) format. A PDF version of the document reflecting layout suggestions and possible font issues is also required (e.g. when special characters are used).

The anonymous peer review process will start upon receipt of the manuscript.

Moscow University Translation Studies Bulletin publishes scholarly articles on all aspects of translation and interpreting: translation studies (theories of translation), teaching translation, interpretation research, stylistics, comparative terminological studies, computer-assisted translation (machine translation), documentation, etc.

For postgraduate students the publication of their research materials is free-of-charge.
